Amherst College Ends Legacy Admissions Favoring Children of Alumni:   Amherst College announced on Wednesday that it would no longer give the children of alumni a boost in the admissions process, becoming one of the first highly selective colleges in the country to abandon a practice that has held back efforts to diversify the top echelons of American higher education. About 11% of students admitted in the recent years have been students of alumni. In the past, admissions committees have gave preference to students of alumni. The admissions of students of alumni hasn't affected the funding but it has affected the diversity. The university also announced that they will be offering more financial aid to low income students.
