 Local Public Records

A public record is a document or piece of information that is not considered confidential and generally pertain to the conduct of government. A public record is also any document that is made or received in connection with public business of any state agency. Public records are also created by federal and local government. Some examples are vital records, immigration records, real estate records, driving records, or criminal records. Some examples of free public records are census data, property information, tax liens and judgments, criminal records, bankruptcies and court records. Even though these types of records are free they can often be difficult to find as they are typically available at a local government agency.

Amherst College Ends Legacy Admissions Favoring Children of Alumni:   Amherst College announced on Wednesday that it would no longer give the children of alumni a boost in the admissions process, becoming one of the first highly selective colleges in the country to abandon a practice that has held back efforts to diversify the top echelons of American higher education. About 11% of students admitted in the recent years have been students of alumni. In the past, admissions committees have gave preference to students of alumni. The admissions of students of alumni hasn't affected the funding but it has affected the diversity. The university also announced that they will be offering more financial aid to low income students.
